Alberta Blue Cross Ensures Plan participants receive uninterrupted benefit coverage
As the COVID-19 situation continues to move fast and change rapidly, Alberta Blue Cross is committed to supporting you and your employees through this time of uncertainty. Our top priority is ensuring uninterrupted access to benefits and coverage.

Submit claims online to ensure timely processing of claims
To ensure claims are processed as quickly as possible, we ask that you encourage your employees to take advantage of our website capabilities and our Alberta Blue Cross My Benefits app. All claims can be submitted online through our website or app. This will provide greater assurance of timely claims processing as we’ve temporarily suspended walk-in traffic to our offices and mailing paper claims could result in delays.By managing their plans online, your employees will be able toget paid faster and check claims history in seconds;submit a special authorization request and receipts for verification when it’s convenient;get directions to a local provider that direct bills using the provider look-up tool powered by Google Maps;check to see if a prescription drug is covered before going to the pharmacy; andavoid out-of-pocket expenses by checking the ineligible providers list. And, with 97 per cent of our claims paid online through benefit providers, our website and app, we are well positioned to continue providing the high level of service you and your employees are accustomed to.

Manage your plan online
Keeping your employee information up to date is more critical than ever. To provide or remove access to benefits for your employees quickly and digitally, we also want to encourage you to take advantage of our online plan administration capabilities. Our plan administrator site provides you with seven-day-a-week access to everything you need to administer your group benefits plan includingadding, changing or removing employees;reviewing status of recent updates to employee files;accessing wellness resources;ordering new ID cards; andviewing your statement of accounts. To learn more about these features or sign up for a user account, please contact us at 1-866-498-5925

Prescription supplies and role of pharmacists
To ensure all Albertans have continued access to essential medications and to help pharmacists manage drug supplies, Alberta Health has provided guidance that pharmacies provide a maximum 30-day supply of prescription drugs, effective March 19, 2020.Alberta Blue Cross plan members with coverage through employer-group sponsored benefit plans whose plans currently provide 90 to 100 days maximum days’ supply are encouraged to follow the advice and counsel of their pharmacist regarding the 30 days’ supply restriction.

New temporary COVID-19 pharmacy services fee
Pharmacists can now provide service for screening and providing information about COVID-19 to patients. The new service comes into effect March 20, 2020 and allows pharmacists to claim an assessment fee of up to $20 to a maximum of five claims per pharmacy per day. The $20 fee is paid by Alberta Health, not through benefit plans.
